Germany’s Left Party Proposes Protecting Sex Workers

The Left party, at its federal party congress in Potsdam last weekend, spoke out in favor of protecting sex workers. The motions “Solidarity with sex workers, for rights and visibility – Against patriarchy, state repression, and human trafficking” and “Solidarity responses to exploitation in sex work” were adopted.
“The Left positions itself clearly against the so‑called Nordic Model, as it is currently being pushed by right‑wing and anti‑feminist forces,” explained Maja Tegeler and Daniel Bache, the co‑spokespeople of Die Linke queer. “Solidarity is now a settled policy.”
Moreover, Die Linke queer submitted a number of amendments to the guiding motion, some of which were adopted. As a result, Die Linke now, in its guiding motion, commits to defending the Self‑Determination Act and to further developing the National Action Plan “Queer Life.” It also emphasizes the importance of Pride events (CSDs) in the fight against the far right.
Non-binary person on the federal board
With Luca Renner, a non‑binary person, who had previously served on the national spokesperson council of Die Linke queer, was also elected to the Left’s federal board, which counts just over two dozen members.
