Kristen Stewart: Life Would Be Incomplete Without Her Coming Out

Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”) spoke about the motivations behind her public coming out nine years ago. “It wasn’t so much about sharing details of my relationship, but rather about acknowledging that there are people who can’t fully participate in life because they have to hide,” the 35-year-old told the US broadcaster ABC News.

Stewart had, in 2017, on the television program “Saturday Night Live” (SNL), spoken about former tweets by US President Donald Trump concerning her relationship life and publicly told Trump that she was “so gay.”

Until then, many people had told her: “Your career would be better off if you didn’t go out hand in hand with your girlfriend,” she recounted. “And I thought to myself: So you want me to lead an incomplete life? And you want me to uphold a system that excludes people? I simply can’t.”

At the same time, she discussed not wanting to reveal her private life fully to the tabloid press: “I didn’t want to be a comic book character,” said Stewart. “But I didn’t want to hide from the world we live in. I wanted the world to become a more open and tolerant place.”

Stewart rose to global fame alongside Robert Pattinson with the “Twilight” films and was also briefly linked romantically with the actor. Since 2019 she has been with screenwriter Dylan Meyer. The two are said to have married last year (as reported by TheColu.mn).

Even before the SNL appearance, Stewart’s sexual orientation was an open secret. In 2012 the actress’s mother confirmed that her daughter was bisexual (as reported by TheColu.mn). In 2016 Stewart also spoke in the British edition of the women’s magazine “Elle” about her girlfriend (as reported by TheColu.mn).
