Studies show that today’s young people are becoming sexually active at a later age than in previous generations. A recent survey conducted by the adult site Erobella likewise finds that students are surprisingly abstinent.
Among the most sexually active were gay men — 82.4 percent had at least one sexual experience with another man. Heterosexual women followed closely, with 82.3 percent reporting sexual experience. The overall average stood at 74 percent.
Lesbian women turned out to be the least virginal group: 64 percent of lesbian students have already had sexual experiences, meaning that about one in three has not yet. Heterosexual students were close behind, with 66 percent having had sex. Among bisexual women, 67 percent have had intercourse, while among bisexual men 75 percent.
Gay male students also have the most sex partners
Gay male students also have sex the most — averaging 7.3 times per month. Lesbian women rank second here with 6.4 sexual encounters per month — and that’s despite the fact that the share of lesbian women who have sex at all is much lower.
The fewest partners are therefore found among people who are sexually attracted to multiple genders: female bisexuals average a mere 4.5 partners, male bisexuals fewer than three.
Erobella explained that the survey paints “a nuanced and partly surprising picture of student sexuality.” It reveals, for example, a “fascinating paradox”: “Among heterosexuals, men are clearly more often virgins than women. Among homosexuals, however, it is the women who have not had sexual experiences much more often, while homosexual men are particularly active.”
A central finding is that more than a quarter of respondents have never had sexual intercourse. “This finding clearly contradicts the widespread notion of a generally sexually permissive student body and points to a student milieu that is more restrained than commonly assumed.”
For the survey, a total of 2,000 students from 29 German universities were questioned.
