Theater Workshop: Before the Pink Triangle

In January and February, the Düsseldorf Theater Museum will host an intensive theater workshop titled “Before the Pink Triangle,” led by director and TheColu.mn contributor Marvin Wittiber.

Over the past two years, under Wittiber’s guidance, young participants in the theater projects “Alone in the Pink Triangle” and “After the Pink Triangle” have deeply explored the lived realities of queer people in Düsseldorf during and after the Nazi era. Now, the Düsseldrama theater collective is continuing that work, turning its focus to the Weimar Republic—a period defined by both upheaval and possibility.

“In this third installment of the Rosa Winkel trilogy, you’ll look back with director Marvin Wittiber and his team at this era,” the announcement explains. “You’re approaching a time when queer life could flourish—and when tenderness itself became an act of courage. How did that freedom sound? How did it smell, move, and feel? And what, if anything, remains of it in us today?”

The intensive workshop is aimed at teens and young adults aged 16 to 27. It will take place on Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., as well as Friday, February 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, February 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., all at the Düsseldorf Theater Museum. Concluding performances will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, February 8, at 6:00 p.m., also at the Theater Museum Düsseldorf.

Participation is free, and no prior experience is required. Applications are accepted until January 28, 2026, by email to [address not provided].
