Sexuality, Queerness, and Masculinity

The Munich gallery Kunstbehandlung has published for 2026 a calendar featuring abstract, erotic depictions of men by Luke Carter. Carter earned his illustration degree in Bristol. The British artist has lived in Leipzig since 2018 and completed a diploma in painting/graphics at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts. He works with linocut and woodcut prints, oil and acrylic painting, drawings, and wall paintings.

A thematic focus of his work is sexuality, queerness, and masculinity. His bold, highly abstracted imagery with radiant colors makes his pieces stand out. Narratively depicted everyday scenes are elevated into cubist forms and take on an iconic, emblematic quality.

In another series, one discovers on the second look that between geometric shapes and subtly hidden, sigil-like hints lie entire narratives—immersed in multi-layered color nuances that from a distance appear abstract and monochrome. His black-and-white linocuts condense momentary scenes and become visual narratives.

Homoerotic Art by Gay Artists

The calendars from the Munich gallery Kunstbehandlung featuring painted erotic male motifs have long been a staple on walls in many spaces. The new editions by Luke Carter, Robert C. Rore, and Max Ströder for 2026 (each 14 sheets, 21 x 14.8 cm, full color throughout, spiral-bound) are now available for €10 each at kunstbehandlung.com. There, exclusively homoerotic, contemporary art by gay artists is presented. The majority of the works focus on depicting the male body, usually shown with little to no clothing. On display and for sale are paintings, watercolors, drawings, FineArt prints, as well as complete series by the Munich painter and draftsman Robert C. Rore, while the other exhibited artists are primarily focused on painting or photography. (dd/pm)
