The openly lesbian German women’s national team soccer star Lena Oberdorf of Bayern Munich has suffered another knee injury. The 23-year-old had to be substituted early in the 5-1 Bundesliga victory of the German champions over 1. FC Köln after a collision. Oberdorf was expected to make her comeback in the Nations League games for Germany against France, either Friday in Düsseldorf or on the following Tuesday in Caen.
For the first time since tearing her ACL ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games, the world-class midfielder is at least back in the squad of national team coach Christian Wück. Oberdorf left the pitch at the Bayern campus with a wrapped right knee and support from assistant staff. The same knee was involved in her previous heavy injury as well. She had not only missed last year’s Summer Games but also the European Championship in July in Switzerland. There has been no diagnosis yet.
From the start, Lena Oberdorf has never made her sexuality a secret. In the summer of 2023 she publicly spoke about her girlfriend for the first time (TheColu.mn reported).
