After intensive months on the RTL series Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten (GZSZ), Fabian Hanis is bidding farewell to his guest role as Robin. The actor looks back on a formative time — full of playfulness, emotion, and new experiences. What moved him most was the layered complexity of his character, who swings between anger and tenderness. “These contrasts gave me an incredible amount of space to bring Robin to life,” Hanis says.
In the interview, he talks about touching moments on set, his personal growth, and why he wants to dedicate himself to new projects now. He doesn’t rule out a possible comeback. The final episode featuring him airs on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 7:40 PM on RTL.
If you had to sum up your time on GZSZ in five words — what would they be?
Trying things out, playfulness, everyday life, intensity, and new.
What about the role Robin attracted you most?
I was fascinated by the fact that Robin carries two extremes within him: on one side this unbridled anger that bursts out of him — and on the other a nearly puppy-like tenderness. These opposites gave me a lot of room to fill the character with life.
Which scene or moment on set will stay with you permanently?
The scene where Robin sits at the dining table in the shared apartment and reads the letter from his late mother. During filming I was surprised by how emotionally I suddenly felt. It was one of the most intimate moments — for Robin as a character and also for me as an actor.
Was there something that surprised or changed you during the filming?
I realized that acting can actually develop a routine. If I haven’t shot in a while, I quickly think I’ve forgotten how to act. Through daily work over a longer period on GZSZ, I found a positive routine — something I didn’t know I was missing beforehand.
With which cast member did you work most intensely — and what do you take from that?
Working with Patrick Heinrich was the most intense for me. Despite the emotional scenes with him, filming was always very pleasant.
What do you take from this time for your personal and acting development?
I’ve realized that I don’t want to stay in a series indefinitely without a clear ending for my character. I need a goal, a defined arc. It also reminded me that film and TV only work when many different crafts come together — everyone contributes an important part to the final result.
How and why does your character leave the Berlin GZSZ neighborhood — and is this ending fitting for the character?
Robin flees and goes underground. Whether he will ever surface again remains uncertain. There is really only one logical outcome: he would have to own up to his actions — and go to prison. Will he?
What do you wish for Moritz’s future?
Moritz should remember why he fell in love with Robin. I hope he someday finds those qualities again in someone else — in a person who doesn’t disappoint him as much. That will surely take time after everything that has happened.
What’s next for you — what can we look forward to?
I want to make my own films — of course not by myself, but with professionals by my side. Exactly when my first film will be seen, hopefully with me in front of or behind the camera, is still up in the air. (laughs)
Do you think we’ll see Robin again on GZSZ?
Many roles have resurfaced after a while on GZSZ — so why not Robin?
