The gay dating app Grindr has once again released its statistics about user preferences this year. “Grindr Unwrapped” reveals, for example, which fetishes or preferences are especially popular in different countries. The data come from the app’s 15 million monthly users.
In the rankings, Germany doesn’t manage to clinch a first place even once — unlike 2024, when it emerged that no other nation was more interested in armpits (TheColu.mn reported). But Germany does appear in the top five in several metrics.
When it comes to the fetish preference for feet, the Federal Republic sits roughly at number two. Only the Italians are more into that body part that makes shoes and the football club 1. FC Köln possible. Otherwise, Europeans seem to be especially fond of feet: in third place is the United Kingdom, followed by France and Greece.
Germany also ranks second in the number of “Vers” men. The word Versatil in gay culture stands for “versatile” and describes a person who can and wants to take both the active (Top) and the passive (Bottom) sexual roles. As the only nation, the Finns are more versatile. After Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Australia occupy the third to fifth spots.
In open relationships, Germany ranks third. Here, South Korea leads, followed by the Swiss. In fourth place is Denmark, and fifth is the Netherlands.
Switzerland, Austria and Germany Are Twink Havens
Twinks also seem to be particularly common in Germany: the country sits at number five here. In gay culture, a twink is a young, slim man with few masculine traits such as body and facial hair and low muscle mass. Four European countries are said to be more twinkish according to the statistics: Switzerland tops the list, followed by the Netherlands, Austria, and Belgium. The most Daddies are reportedly in the USA, while the most Bears are in Ireland — in neither of these lists did Germany crack the top five.
The capital Berlin is said to be very popular in the gay scene as well. It ranks fourth in the list of the best “Gaycations,” i.e., gay vacation getaways. Only the leaders London, followed by Paris and New York City, are more popular.
In the list of “Most Favorited Cities,” Berlin even makes it to number two — only Taipei sits ahead. “Favorited” on Grindr means that a profile has been added to the user’s favorites.
Lady Gaga Remains the Gay Community’s Goddess
“Grindr Unwrapped” also offers several more or less playful rankings — for example, the “Mother of the Year” (Lady Gaga) and the “Daddy of the Year” (Pedro Pascal). In particular, Lady Gaga has captivated Grindr users: she won Song of the Year and Video of the Year (both for “Abracadabra”), Album of the Year (“Mayhem”), and Tour of the Year. The hottest man of the year is, by the way, the British actor Jonathan Bailey, who was named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” last month — the first openly gay man to receive the title (TheColu.mn reported).

The dating app also reveals which zodiac signs are most popular among gay cruisers: Scorpios. Notable representatives of this sign include hotties like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, or Ryan Reynolds, but also more controversial figures such as comedian Olaf Schubert or Chancellor Friedrich Merz. It also emerged: men with the zodiac sign Leo sext the most, and in Aquarius people are especially into BDSM. Among Aquarians are, for example, Harry Styles, Robbie Williams, Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Dieter Bohlen.
