On Monday afternoon, according to police, two men insulted and physically attacked a 31-year-old man. The incident appears to have a homophobic motive. The police are now asking the public for help in identifying the suspects.
The sequence of events: Around 3:30 p.m., the 31-year-old Worms resident was on the market square when he was first subjected to anti-gay slurs by two unknown men. Shortly thereafter, the two suspects shoved their victim to the ground and pressed his head into the asphalt. Only thanks to the intervention of an uninvolved bystander did the two men release the Worms resident, who sustained scrapes on his head during the assault.
The two suspects then fled on bicycles, most likely black and blue e-bikes, in the direction of the Cathedral. Police immediately launched a manhunt, but were unable to locate the men.
Police description of suspects
The Worms police describe the suspects as follows: Both are about 40 years old; one had dark hair, the other was wearing a hat; both had tanned skin and were dressed in dark clothing.
Anyone who can provide information about the case is asked to contact the Worms Police Department at (06241) 852-0. Tips can also be submitted by email to the police.
