Berlin Neukölln: Investigations Into ‘Fuck LGBTQ’ Graffiti

Anti-LGBTQ+ and antisemitic graffiti were discovered Tuesday evening in Berlin’s Neukölln district, according to a report by RBB on Wednesday.

Unknown individuals sprayed red and green paint to scrawl slogans such as “Fuck LGBTQ”, “Free Gaza”, “Fuck Jews” or “Fuck Israel” across surfaces. The window of a pharmacy was defaced, and other messages appeared on building walls as well as directly on the street itself.

In all, the police say there have been ten charges filed for property damage. The affected areas include Lenau Street, Friedel Street, Pannier Street, and Pflüger Street.

The investigation has been taken over by the Political Crime Unit of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage as part of the inquiry.

Berlin has repeatedly seen reports of anti-LGBTQ+ assaults. The state police make a point of publicly highlighting hate crimes based on sexual orientation or gender identity, which tends to bring these cases into the public eye more often. The police and the public prosecutor’s office in the capital maintain dedicated contacts for queer residents and communities.
