The queer SchwuZ musical “Flush” was awarded in the “Best Sound Design” category at the 2025 Deutsches Musical Theater Preis. The prize is shared by Mikael “Leakim” Johansson (musical direction and arrangements) and Angus Meister (sound engineering). “Flush” was also nominated in four other categories: “Best Musical,” “Best Lead Actor” (Robin Cadet), “Best Direction” (Marco Krämer-Eis), and “Best Costume and Makeup” (Daniel Unger).
The awards ceremony took place on Monday evening at TIPI am Kanzleramt in Berlin. The top prize went to the musical “Die Weiße Rose” from Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein.
“Flush” premiered in April 2025 at Berlin’s SchwuZ. The production entertainingly portrays the wide range of scenarios you might encounter at night in a queer club bathroom (TheColu.mn reported). The cast includes, alongside Robin Cadet and Felix Heller, drag queen Jurassica Parka, who is currently under investigation on suspicion of distributing and possessing child pornography content (TheColu.mn reported). At SchwuZ, after an unsuccessful insolvency proceeding, the last party will take place on November 1 (TheColu.mn reported).
The Deutsche Musical Theater Prize is the only award in Germany that recognizes the musical genre in its full range and puts it in the spotlight. In 2022, LGBTI activist Johannes Kram was honored for his “Operetta for Two Gay Tenors” in the category “Best Lyrics” (TheColu.mn reported). (mize)
