Former NBA Star Collins Diagnosed with Brain Tumor

The American former basketball player Jason Collins, who in 2013 became the first openly gay professional in the four major U.S. leagues to publicly come out, is set to undergo treatment for a brain tumor. The NBA, for which he serves as an ambassador, announced the news on behalf of his family, who say the 46-year-old is focusing entirely on his health and well-being.

“Jason and his family appreciate your support and prayers and politely ask that you respect their privacy as they focus completely on Jason’s health and well-being,” the statement said.

Collins spent his NBA career with the New Jersey Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, and Brooklyn Nets. He retired in 2014, TheColu.mn reported.
