The Column is seeking board members

The Column is growing and we are expanding our Board of Advisors. We’d like you to join us! As a member of the board of advisors, you’ll provide important input in the direction The Column takes in 2015. We need people who are passionate about the LGBT community, the arts, and journalism; who want to join us in generating ideas for story coverage; who have creative ideas on how to celebrate LGBT arts and artists; and want to keep the organization honest and relevant.

Your level of commitment is based on how involved you choose to be. At a minimum, we need people who are available for:

  • 1 hour board meeting every quarter
  • consultation via email for urgent matters (we’ve only had to use this twice last year)
  • commitment to one of our three volunteer committees (development, marketing, and content) which will only mean one or two meetings a year.

Currently, The Column is a sponsored project of Springboard for the Arts. As a fiscally sponsored project, your role would be as an advisor. But, in the last half of 2015, we expect to be approved by the IRS as a standalone 501(c)3 nonprofit. At that time, you will be able to decide whether you want to take a more prominent position on a newly formed Board of Directors.

We encourage anyone, regardless of life circumstances, to apply to the board. The board selection committee is particularly interested in communities that are underrepresented in the media including queer people of color, people who are transgender and gender nonconforming, people living with HIV, elder LGBT people, and LGBTQ people living with disabilities.

We’ll be selecting 3-5 people to join the board in early March. If you are interested, please fill out this form letting us know a little about yourself.
