[by Mrs. Pederson May 12, 2012 Feature, Health, Lifestyle, Pinching Pennies with P, Sports No Comments

With the unseasonably warm weather we have been enjoying come all kinds of perks.  The lilacs are already in full bloom, BBQ grills are already blazing and every bike trail is completely ready for heavy traffic.  That means it is also the perfect time for Nice Ride to announce their springtime promotion!

In addition to their beginning the season with the announcement of the rewards program – giving users savings opportunities at local merchants – they are holding a daily drawing May 14 – 27, 2012 for individuals subscribing during that period.

If that isn’t cool enough you will also be one of the legions of new and returning users of this innovative program that has drawn international attention.  Nice ride’s slogan is “Grab summer by the handlebars” to which I add and get rid of YOUR love handles.

The cost of the regular subscription is $65 and for students it is $55.  If you enroll during the promotional period you will earn a chance of one of many cool prizes AND get a nice ride shirt (a $40 value)!

If you have not already subscribed, hang on until the 14th but do it before the 27th in order to be entered in the drawing.  Super secret bonus day is May 26!  If you sign up on that day you are entered into TWO drawings.

Let’s take that for a ride!

Love & Peace,

Margie

Preview: Mother Courage and Her Children

[by Keith Pederson February 3, 2010 Arts, Feature, Nightlife, Pinching Pennies with P Comments Off

There is nothing like a story of suffering to make the long Minnesota winters seem more bearable.  Who among us living hear hasn’t heard the fabled years of old when young children needed to walk fifteen miles through twenty-five foot snowdrifts to get to school? Well, that is certainly a bit of a stretch by today’s imagination but Julie Dafydd will be delivering just that level of Chutzpah in the title character of Mother Courage this month at Minneapolis College and Technical School’s Theater on the Park.

Dafydd, a local actor, writer, personality in the Twin Cities, has written the column “Consider The Source” for Lavender magazine for the past fifteen years and was Empress III of The Imperial Court of Minnesota.

Mother Courage is set in war torn Europe during the Thirty-Years War (1616-1648). The lead, portrayed by Daffyd, displays the depth of being human in the role that examines life in the midst of all that war brings. Portraying the struggle to survive during a never-ending period of conflict, upheaval and lawlessness. This is not a merry-go-lightly performance but is sure to make you pleased you don’t have to deal with these types of struggles.

The Bertold Brecht standard is scheduled for a short run beginning Wednesday February 10, 2010 continuing its daily run through Saturday February 13 with an additional 1:00 pm matinee.  All evening shows are at 7:00 pm and all performances are free to the public.  Audience members are asked to bring non-perishable food items in lieu of ticket fees, which will be distributed to local food shelves.

The talented direction of Maxine Klein will no doubt bring this performance the depth and structure the playwright intended.  Bertold Brecht is one of Germany’s most celebrated playwrights.

February 10, 11, 12, 13 2010 7:00 p.m.

February 13 1:00 p.m. (Matinee)

Please bring a non-perishable food item for distribution to local food shelves.
