Minnesota Tea Party group publishes anti-gay rants

The Central Minnesota Tea Party posted a screed by anti-LGBT activist J. Matt Barber that claims to show that gay men are pedophiles.

Barber is an Associate Dean at Liberty University School of Law, a school founded by the late-Jerry Falwell, a well-known anti-LGBT preacher.

He recently penned an article, titled, “The homosexual movement’s push for adult-child sex.” The article exploited allegations against X-Men director Bryan Singer to paint the majority of gay men as pedophiles. Labelling gay men as predators has been a common tactic by Barber and Liberty University. His statements have been heavily criticized by LGBT groups such as GLAAD and progressive groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Central Minnesota Tea Party republished Barber’s piece in its entirety, changing the title to “The Lefts push for Adult/Child sex.”

Despite statements to the contrary that insist the Tea Party movement exists to fight for free markets and limited government, many of Minnesota’s Tea Party chapters have engaged in anti-LGBT activity over the last year.

The Southwest Metro Tea Party has been promoting anti-LGBT preacher Bradlee Dean.

The South Metro Tea Party posted a video made by a group founded by Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen that contains falsehoods about the LGBT community.

Most of Minnesota’s Tea Party groups have hosted the Minnesota Child Protection League, an anti-LGBT group opposed to strengthening the state’s anti-bullying laws.
