Muffin Top Cafe hopes to fill the void of LGBT-centric cafes in Minneapolis’ most LGBT neighborhood.

Sam Turner and his partner Dion Coker purchased the space at 1424 Nicollet Avenue a few weeks ago and quickly transformed the space once occupied by Safari Restaurant. The cafe sits just around the corner from the 19 Bar, a Minneapolis LGBT nightlife icon.

“Dion and I bought it just a few weeks ago and have rebranded it as Muffin Top Cafe and are hoping it will become what we see is a much needed gay coffee shop in the neighborhood,” Turner told TheColu.mn.

The cafe is already offering a deal for groups meeting for coffee: “We offer your group a full pot of coffee for only $12.00.”

Turner says new guests should check out the bakery. “All of our bakery is baked in house,” he says. As far as coffee, “We have ‘White Lightning’ a super caffeinated white mocha that is amazing.”

But it’s been a surprise what the best selling items have been so far. “Believe it or not, our best seller has been deviled eggs,” Turner said.
