Supporters of an anti-gay marriage amendment have either canceled or declined to participate in two forums on the amendment
A forum in Winona on Wednesday will be one-sided because pro-amendment representatives won’t be in attendance. According to the Winona Daily News, “[Lori Ortega, program chairwoman for the League of Women Voters,] said representatives of pro-amendment groups were asked to participate but did not respond to requests.”
A similar forum in Brainerd was canceled when Sen. Warren Limmer, R-Maple Grove, pulled out. Limmer was the chief author and supporter of the amendment.
Senator Warren Limmer, author of the amendment, notified local League of Women Voters President, Sandy Reuther, on Friday of his intent to withdraw from the program. Citing concerns about the program format as well as his concern about the State League of Women Voters’ position opposing the amendment, Senator Limmer wrote that he would not be participating.
