Klobuchar reiterates opposition to marriage amendment at State Fair debate

Amy Klobuchar is the only state-wide candidate running for re-election in November, and she’s also one of the most popular. Will she be taking a strong stand against the anti-gay marriage amendment this fall? If the State Fair debate with her Republican opponent Kurt Bills is any indication, the answer is yes.

Both were asked about their position on the anti-gay marriage amendment.

Bills: “I also voted to put the marriage amendment on the ballot so that people could make their own choice instead of the legislature and the courts.”

Klobuchar: I oppose this amendment. I oppose the amendment, the marriage amendment. Minnesota has always been a state of tolerance.
We are a state that does not want to bind ourselves and put things in the const when in fact it should be a legislative decision
which in this case it already was. I’m hopeful the citizens will see this as something that was put here to divide people.”
