Sen. Dan Hall, one of the chief backers of the anti-gay marriage amendment, wrote on twitter yesterday, “Why is it you never see an American flag where you see a Vote No for the Mn #Marriage Amendment sign?,” along with a picture of three Duluth homes, two with “Vote No” signs, and another with an American flag hanging from the front porch.

His tweet launched reactions from many quarters, including from fellow Republicans. CityPages has a run-down of the reactions.

But Hall says he wasn’t calling anyone’s patriotism into question. “Everyone seems touchy when I give them my observation. U read into it what U want, but no one is calling anyone unpatriotic,” Hall later wrote on Twitter.
