Minnesota for Marriage has frequently called for a civil debate over the anti-gay marriage amendment, but they keep claiming that gays can become straight, despite enormous evidence to the contrary. The most recent case involves Minnesota for Marriage staffer Winnie Okafor.
At a church appearance on behalf of Minnesota for Marriage, Okafor advocated that gays and lesbians undergo reparative therapy.
Good As You’s Jeremy Hooper captured the video.
First Okafor says, “Vote yes if you want to stand with God.”
Okafor was speaking at Horizons Community Church in Ham Lake.
The pastor of the church asked Okafor, “As Christians we know that there are people that differ from us and they are opposed to our perspective, how do we, particularly in the gay community, how to we show love and respect to those who differ from us?”
Okafor suggested “ex-gay therapy,” the notion that gays and lesbians can become heterosexual through prayer. It’s been widely discredited by virtually every professional and scientific association.
“As Christians, we are all called to love on another and to love everyone, I would suggest that you pray for these people and show them love in the way you are best able to. There’s also ministries that help with caring for people who are at a point where they feel where my life isn’t where I want it to be and I want to change. There’s Courage Ministries and there’s Outpost Minitries and that website is outpostministries.org, and if you just search courage on the internet you should come to their website. These are good places to donate to and to maybe spend some time volunteering as well. those are two practical ways and never underestimate the power of prayer because we have heard good testiminies of people coming to a full union with a woman, after struggling, or with a man, after struggling with homosexual tendencies.”
Okafor has recently became a staffer for Minnesota for Marriage after interning for Pawlenty for President.
It’s not the first time Minnesota for Marriage has delved into the issue of reparative therapy or “pray the gay away.” They have a long history of supporting the movement.
