As expectations build that the incoming, Republican-majority legislature will try to pass a measure putting a constitutional amendment banning same-gender marriage on the ballot in 2012, an exhibit at Mankato Sate University’s Centennial Student Union is trying to remind the community of the toll AIDS took on the national community. 15 pieces of the AIDS Quilt, memorializing more than 100 victims of the disease, were put on display to mark World AIDS Day last week, but they also serve as a reminder of the years of discrimination that fueled the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS in the 1980s, through inadequate prevention funding.
