Bachmann speaks out against overturning Prop 8

2

Rep. Michele Bachmann took to the podium on Tuesday at a press conference condemning the overturning of California’s Prop 8. She chided Judge Vaughn Walker, the judge who ruled Prop 8 to be unconstitutional. Bachmann is one of 17 lawmakers who have introduced a resolution condemning the decision.

“Frankly I believe that progressive activist judges who issue their personal moral pronouncements under the guise of constitutional law are instead demonstrating themselves irrational rulings.”

Though Bachmann calls Judge Walker a progressive, Walker was appointed by Republican presidents and has been on the opposite side of gay activists on decisions before. He is a conservative judge, but he is also gay.

  1. As the SF Chronicle put it — “Life is full of irony,” the judge replied when we reminded him about that episode.

I don’t get Signorile’s hand-wringing about outing Judge Walker. It’s disingenuous. One can be out in public life without announcing it to reporters, as he very well knows.

  2. I just can’t imagine why anyone’s sexual orientation is of interest to the government. There is something like a .001% difference in the genetic makeup of a male and a female human being. In the entire history of the human race we are approximately 99.9% genetically similar to every other human who has ever lived. Why does sex or orientation have to make any difference regarding love? And is the government going to regulate love in the future?
