The Dallas Voice reports that Dallas Area Rapid Transit board members have gutted a “months-old” proposal to add protections for trans employees to the agency’s non-discrimination policy. In a possibly illegal closed-door session on Tuesday, the DART Board of Directors approved an amendment to the trans protections proposal that effectively cleared the way for the agency to discriminate against any LGBT person. While some board members who are on record supporting an LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination policy claim they were “duped” into voting for the measure, the Voice’s reporting is casting some doubt on the measure, which would also undo current protections based on sexual orientation and kill a long effort by Dallas LGBT activists to get DART to adopt fully-inclusive employment protections. A final vote on the policy is scheduled for June 22nd.
