The Mayor of Yuma, Arizona, was apparently worried his state would slip from its position as “classiest state in the Union” when he told a Memorial Day service at a local military cemetery just what he thought of homosexual soldiers: “I cannot believe that a bunch of lacy-drawered, limp-wristed people could do what those men have done in the past.”

Mayor Al Krieger is (surprise) a strong opponent of repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and in an interview with a local NBC affiliate, continued his comments on efforts to repeal the ban by comparing himself to Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, and claimed they’d agree with his opinions.

Yuma, birthplace of Cesar Chavez, is the tenth-largest city in Arizona.
