In an interview with an American Family Association radio program, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) told the host that straight soldiers, sailors, and airmen would not fight to defend their LGB fellow servicemembers. Speaking about Solicitor General Elena Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court, Inhofe said that soldiers don’t fight for the country, “they do it for the guy in the foxhole next to them,” and that if that soldier was gay, they would not feel the same compulsion to fight.
