LGBT families from all over the Midwest will come to Minneapolis for the 15th Annual Rainbow Families conference. Founded in 1997, Rainbow Families has provided information and support to LGBT parents across the Midwest. This year’s conference to be held on Saturday in Bryn Mawr will feature Tony award-winning actor B.D. Wong.

An openly gay actor, Wong is best known for his roles on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and HBO’s Oz. In 2000, he and his partner became parents to a son conceived through surrogacy.

The Rainbow Families conference will incorporate a host of workshops including information for educators, discussions on social Justice, and parenting tips for LGBT families. The conference will feature special programming for children as well.

Some workshop topics include: Marriage and Beyond: Building a Powerful Statewide Movement for LGBT Equality, White Noise: White Families Resisting White Supremacy, Talking to Your Children about Being in an LGBT Family, Creating Your Family with Surrogacy, Egg Donation and Donor Insemination and Spirituality across the Rainbow: A Panel of LGBT Religious Experiences.

“With the addition of BD Wong, the 15th Annual Rainbow Families Conference is set to again be the premier community building and learning event for current and prospective LBGT parents and their children, family members and friends, area educators and community members,” said the Family Equality Council of which Rainbow Families became a part in 2008.

The conference will take place on April 10 at Anwatin/Bryn Mawr schools at 256 Upton Ave South in Minneapolis.
