Remember last fall, when the Human Rights Campaign announced (via Kerry Eleveld) the White House was talking to Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) about strategies for a potential repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell? In an interview with the New York Daily News, Lieberman announced he will be introducing repeal legislation next week. Now that the Democrats have all the political cover in the world, including poll numbers suggesting a repeal will be a non-issue in the 2010 mid-term elections, repeal legislation is finally moving ahead, albeit with one of the stranger/more uncomfortable argument for LGBT rights:
And – this is me [author James Kirchick] speaking – can one think of a better way for homosexual-hating, diversity-fearing Islamofascists to bite the dust than at the hands of openly gay American Marines?
“Equality, F*ck Yeah…?” They might want to take that slogan back to the drawing board. Jus’ saying.
The question is: will the repeal be attached to the 2011 Defense Authorization, to make sure it passes, even if Obama decides to re-visit the same “leadership” strategy that was oh-so-successful in getting quality health care reform through Congress?

Apple-world – No Sex For You! Apple has apparently started yanking sex-themed or sex-related apps from the App Store, after complaints from app developers that too many attempts to make the next Grindr are making it hard for customers to find their less-sexy products. (Joe.My.God)
D.C. – The heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps will be testifying on Capitol Hill this week on, among other things, DADT. The Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, Ike Skelton (D-MO) wants to hold separate hearings on a repeal, but it’s unclear if this is an attempt to create a media event where Skelton and the committee’s GOP members can attack the repeal effort. California – Equality California is trying to scrub traces of homophobia (other than a certain elephant called Proposition 8 ) from California’s laws. They’re targeting a buried section of the state’s welfare laws that mandate the state Department of Health study “cures” for homosexuality. Not clear if the law was actually followed… (The Advocate)
