Maureen Hackett, one of two DFLers vying to run against Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen in the western suburbs of Minneapolis, got the support of the DFL’s LGBT caucus this weekend. Paulsen, who is in his first term in Congress, has a lackluster record on LGBT issues.

“We’re proud to support Dr. Hackett,” said Stonewall DFL chair Del Jenkins. “She has left no doubt that she’ll be an effective and tireless advocate for all Minnesotans and that she won’t back down from taking on the tough issues.”

Hackett said she was honored to get the endorsement.

“I’m honored to have earned the support of Stonewall DFL and look forward to working with Stonewall DFL members so we can ensure that all Minnesotans and all Americans enjoy equal rights under the law,” Hackett said. “From ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell to continuing the fight for civil rights, there’s a lot of work ahead of us. America has always been about expanding opportunity for all and that’s an effort I’m proud to continue.”
