Reps. Michele Bachmann and John Kline have signed on to a brief filed by the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) to prevent the District of Columbia from allowing same-sex marriage until the matter can go to the voters. The ACLJ was founded by televangelist Pat Robertson of the 700 Club fame.

DC’s mayor signed the same-sex married ordinance in December after it was passed by the Distict’s council. A group of citizens petitioned to put the matter on the ballot but where denied by the Board of Elections and Ethics.

Bachmann, who is no stranger to decrying activist judges in the culture war over same-sex marriage, seems bent on using the courts to overturn a local decision.

Bachmann launched her career on the premise that Minnesotans should vote on other Minnesotans civil rights. Fortunately she failed in Minnesota. Let’s hope she fails in DC.

And let’s hope that this doesn’t happen again.
