The National: Ok, Ok, We’ll Call it the “Imprison Gays” Bill. Happy? / NJ vote postponed / ENDA beats DOMA?

The Ugandan lawmaker behind the infamous “kill gays” bill that would have made “aggravated homosexuality” (i.e. gay sex) punishable by life in prison and stipulated the death penalty for HIV-positive LGB Ugandans has decided to revise his bill to gain the support of Ugandan religious leaders. Instead a “more refined set of punishments,” as Bloomberg News so tactfully phrases it, will replace those two flagship provisions including ex-gay-style therapy “to attract errant people to [sic] acceptable sexual orientation,” the bill’s sponsor said.

The bill has prompted something of a schism within the secretive evangelical group called “The Family”, according to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, as the group tries to stop the bill because of its draconian features. The bill’s sponsor is allegedly a ‘rising star’ within the group.
