TENNESSEE WILLIAMS’ ONE ARM adapted for the stage by MOISES KAUFMAN directed by JOSEPH STODOLA
The hit 2014 Minnesota Fringe workshop becomes the inaugural production of a smart, young, & empowered new kind of ensemble theater.
Moisés Kaufman’s fast, fierce, brutally beautiful stage adaptation of an unproduced screenplay by Tennessee Williams. ONE ARM is the story of Ollie, a young farm boy who joins the Navy and becomes a boxing champion. Soon after, he loses his arm in a car accident, and turns to hustling to survive.
This adaptation is not a realistic play. Using meta-theatrical device, it resurrects a text from one of America’s greatest playwrights (that was too shocking to be produced within his lifetime) asserting theater’s ability to create informed dialogue and give new political context to a story from the past.
Featuring: Torsten Johnson*, H. Adam Harris*, Craig Johnson, Aeysha Kinnunen, and Adam Qualls
Director / Scenographer: Joseph Stodola
Movement: James Kunz

Besides our website, ncgaylaxians.org, join us on Facebook under North Country Gaylaxians, https://www.facebook.com/groups/196936024304/.
About our topic, _Troll_ by Johanna Sinisalo, FROM wikipedia.COM: Not Before Sundown (orig. fin. Ennen päivänlaskua ei voi, USA: Troll – a love story) is a novel written by Finnish author Johanna Sinisalo in 2000. In the same year it won a Finlandia Prize for literature. Since then it has won several awards including The James Tiptree Jr. award in 2004 for works of science fiction or fantasy that expand or explore our understanding of gender.
The story is about a homosexual photographer Mikael, who finds a young and injured troll from his home yard and takes it to his home. This troll is inspired by Finnish folklore and is an intelligent, almost human-like animal that in appearance resembles a cat and a monkey. In the world of the novel trolls are existing animals instead of mythical creatures, although quite rare.
The book has multiple narrative levels, and each chapter is broken into short segments that alternate between viewpoints of different characters. Interspersed between the story are newspaper articles, old stories, novel segments, jokes and other slightly altered history that illustrates the long relationship between humans and trolls in the world of the novel. By concentrating on gay characters the story explores power structures in interpersonal relationships without the need to consider how gender roles affect them.
Aila Johanna Sinisalo (born 22 June 1958, Sodankylä) is a Finnish science fiction and fantasy writer.[1] She studied comparative literature and drama, amongst other subjects, at the University of Tampere. Professionally she worked in the advertising business, rising to the level of marketing designer.
An important figure in the Finnish science fiction scene in the late 1980s and early ’90s (winning a rare back-to-back collection of Atorox Awards for short fiction in the genre), she was also the first Finnish science fiction writer to make a mainstream breakthrough by breaking genre barriers.
Future 2015 discussion topics: The Kappa Child Hiromi Goto, June 9; Steam-powered: Lesbian Steampunk Stories, ed. by JoSelle Vanderhooft, ed, July 14. There will also be panel discussions at CONvergence in July.
