On Almanac on Friday, DFL Sen. Matt Schmit said he would be backing the marriage equality bill that heads to the Senate after a 75 to 59 vote in the House.

“I think we have to follow our conscience,” he told Almanac. “I really do view this as the civil rights issue of our era.”

Schmit has been targeted by opponents of marriage equality with fliers in his district.
