Lady Gaga tells business partner Target to get more gay

0

Lady Gaga said that her deal with Target to sell and market an exclusive deluxe edition of her latest album, “Born This Way,” would have to contain some redemption for the retail giant’s contributions to MN Forward, a political committee that supported the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Tom Emmer. Emmer, who was one of the most anti-LGBT politicians to run for governor of Minnesota, lost by 8,000 votes.

The controversy surrounding Target’s contributions led to nationwide protests and boycotts of the Minneapolis-based retailer.

Gaga says she brought that issue up in her negotiations with Target and urged the company to make more donations to LGBT charities:

“That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I’ve ever had in a business meeting,” Gaga says. “Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they’ve made in the past … our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those [antigay] groups.”
