OutFront Minnesota is hosting a Freedom to Marry Day rally at the Minnesota Capitol on Thursday at noon to counter a likely amendment to the state constitution banning rights for same-sex couples. The rally will also feature people of faith, as well as legislators and activists.
The Rev. Dr. James Gertmenian of Plymouth Congregational Church, as well as several other faith leaders will be speaking on Thursday at the rally.
“For years, many Minnesotans have felt that support for marriage equality is simply incompatible with religious faith,” says OutFront Minnesota Executive Director Monica Meyer. “What this event reminds us is that many people of faith support full legal equality for GLBT individuals, and same-sex couples, not despite their religious beliefs, but because of them.”
OutFront will also be sending valentines to legislators. “In honor of the holiday, we’ll be sharing valentines with our legislators. So bring two cards with your name, address, a note about your family, and a note asking your legislators to speak out against discrimination. All together we can defeat this drive for discrimination.”
People who expect to attend the rally can RSVP on the OutFront Minnesota website.
