The Advocate ranked the cities of the United States and determined that Minneapolis is the gayest of them all. Here’s the rationale:
Over the past decade, Minneapolis has become the gay magnet city of the Midwest. It makes sense: People here are no-nonsense, practical, and don’t deal well with hypocrites. This is where the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America took a historic leap forward and voted to accept gay and lesbian pastors, including the Reverend Mary Albing, the denomination’s first openly lesbian pastor. And Minnesota senator Al Franken introduced the Student Non-Discrimination Act to protect LGBT youth from school bullies.
But that’s not all. Minneapolis also has the very hot Mayhem rugby team (MayhemRFC.com) and a thriving bear community with events like Bob’s Bear Bash, every Wednesday night at the Saloon (SaloonMN.com).
The actual gayest city in the U.S., San Francisco, got 11th. Here’s the top 5: Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Orlando and Pittsburgh.
“It makes sense: People here are no-nonsense, practical, and don’t deal well with hypocrites.”
Actually they don’t deal well with much at all, especially each other!
On what grounds was this “ranking” based upon? I find it hard to believe that Mpls has a higher gay population that SF… Gay sports leagues are really not that hard to come by, im sure they have 10 times as many rugby teams in SF… It would have been nice to read an article based on fact and statistics rather than how “hot” you think the local rugby team is… By the way… the real bear bar night is at the Mpls Eagle, and has been going on much longer than the pathetic excuse for a “bear night” at the tweaked out twinkie bar, the saloon…
