During a dinner with porn actor Brandon Wilde, openly gay Republican state Sen. Paul Koering allegedly told the actor that he supported same-sex marriage. But in an interview with gay porn news website, The Sword, Koering denied his support for marriage equality.
“He told me he wants to be President one day!” Wilde told The Sword. “But first, he needs to win his re-election. He said once he was re-elected he’d work on gay rights issues and NOH8 stuff, you know? He said he’d make it so gay marriage was legal in Minnesota.”
But Koering, who created a stir last year when he came out against marriage equality, denied he said that.
“I don’t remember telling him any of that,” Koering said. “I don’t support gay marriage. My job is to support my constituents, and that’s not something they want.”
In 2009, he said he couldn’t support it because his constituents don’t support it.
Legislators can’t “waste their time” with “pointless legislation,” read a mass e-mail, penned by Ken Swecker, Koering’s legislative assistant. “I’ve already wasted too much time in responding to you.”
