By James Sanna 15 January 2010 6 views No Comment

Sharon LubinskiFormer Minneapolis Assistant Chief of Police Sharon Lubinski was sworn in this morning at the Minneapolis federal courthouse as the next US Marshal for Minnesota. Recommended to the post by Senator Amy Klobuchar and nominated by President Obama this fall, Lubinski’s appointment caps a 30-plus-year career in law enforcement that started as a sheriff’s deputy in Dane County, WI. In a story published a few weeks ago, KTSP reported that Lubinski’s 1993 coming out inspired other LGBT officers to step out of the closet.

As a US Marshal, the 57-year-old Lubinski will be responsible for overseeing the security of federal buildings and courthouses, federal witness protection, catching federal fugitives, and transporting federal prisoners.
