Sens. Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar, along with Reps. Keith Ellison, Betty McCollum, Rick Nolan, and Tim Walz are among the 211 members of Congress who are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to rule in favor of marriage equality.

The only Minnesota congressional Democrat missing from the brief is Rep. Collin Peterson. Republican Reps. John Kline, Tom Emmer, and Erik Paulsen also did not sign.

The brief states, in part:

As federal legislators who represent families across this nation, we believe that — like DOMA — state marriage bans deny our citizens the equal protection that the Constitution guarantees. We urge the Court to make the Constitution’s promise of equality a reality for gay and lesbian couples throughout the nation and reverse the judgments below.

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case on April 28 which was triggered by appeals in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.
