sashandtrim

Interdisciplinary theatre artist/educator Djola Branner will perform excerpts from his first collection of dramatic work, sash & trim and other plays, recently published by RedBone Press.

Djola Branner combines movement, sound and light to enliven voices historically absent from the stage. Co-founder of the seminal group Pomo Afro Homos, he toured nationally and internationally with their shows Fierce Love: Stories from Black Gay Life and Dark Fruit. His interdisciplinary work has been supported by Creative Capital, the Jerome, McKnight, and Bush Foundations, and published in multiple anthologies including In the Life, The Road Before Us, Colored Contradictions, Staging Gay Lives, and Voices Rising. He has created such performances as Sweet Sadie, Mighty Real: A Tribute to Sylvester and sash & trim, and performed in regional theaters across the country. Djola is currently Dean of the School for Interdisciplinary Arts, and Associate Professor of Theater at Hampshire College.

This event marks Djola’s first appearance on a twin cities stage in over five years, and features performances by community artists Patricia Brown, Faye Price, Kory Pullam and Jucoby Johnson.

Admission is free. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

[sws_yellow_box box_size=”100″] Transmission in Berlin (Pride Edition) [/sws_yellow_box]

transmission

On New Year’s Eve of last year Berlin’s DJ Shannon Blowtorch and Transmission’s Jake Rudh teamed up for the first time.
There was something in the air that night. Something that both dance night’s Berlin and Transmission experience on their own…but was brought to a completely new level combined.
It worked so well, that we’re doing it again…this time officially kicking off the Pride weekend of festivities with “Transmission in Berlin II” (Pride Edition)!
Jake will doing a heavy ’80s LGBT set (all videos) and Shannon will be doing her awesome mix of indie dance, riot girl, punk rock, nu disco & more…tag-teaming every half hour.
Hell’s Kitchen hit capacity within the first hour last time, and we’re expecting another crowd ready to celebrate on June 26th, so please arrive early. (some of the best and deeper tracks are played then anyway)
We look forward to seeing you again!
