Please join us for the Art Show Opening and Grand Marshal Reception.
The Grand Marshal Reception recognizing the 2014 Champions of Pride Award Winners and the Twin Cities Pride Art Exhibition opening on Friday, June 13, 2014. The opening night event includes beer and wine, hors d’oeuvres and desserts, cash bar, as well as live jazz. This event is sponsored by RBC Wealth Management and Trinchero Wines.
A fundraiser for TC Pride, the event also includes a Silent Auction, Wine Pull, and airline ticket raffle.
Works of art selected by the Jury will be on display on the evening of June 13, 2014 at The Aloft Hotel. The exhibition will be shown in its entirety for the opening reception. Representatives from the Aloft Hotel will select 4-5 works to be displayed on the feature art wall in the hotel lobby from June 13, 2014-July 18, 2014. All other works will be on display during the 2014 Twin Cities Pride Festival to be held June 28-29, 2014 at Loring Park in downtown Minneapolis. Artists selected by the jury will receive a cash award.
About the Theme
This year’s exhibition theme is titled FREE TO BE in honor of the diverse identities that make up the Twin Cities LGBT community. Artists were asked to draw inspiration from the concepts of FREEDOM and SELF IDENTITY and show us through their artistry what FREE TO BE means to them.
This year’s theme is intended to promote and recognize the idea that we are all free to be ourselves and celebrate the diversity within our LGBT community, and recognize the broad cross-section of the Twin Cities population that we represent. Whether it is the proud drag queen, the lesbian couple and their children, the leather man, the gender variant individual or the newly out and proud teen, the LGBT community finds itself a part of every social, economic, and political division — all ethnicities, races, sexes, ages, economic situation, political persuasion, and lifestyle. Twin Cities Pride encourages artists to embrace, promote and demonstrate this uplifting theme in their works of art. Our community is now, and has been in the past; diverse, powerful, strong and most importantly passionately empowered to be seen, heard and respected.

A One-Act Geek Fest Fitting Our Queer and Feminist Mission takes over Nimbus Theatre this June! Going where few LGBQTIA* and feminist artists have gone before, The Final Frontier Festival takes recent conversations about the way marginalized people are treated in geek culture and puts a progressive but still wildly entertaining response on stage. The six shows featured are:
SET A:
A one-woman show about returning home chock full of magical realism and steeped in Christian mythology called “Honest to God” by J.C. Pankratz, directed by Anna Lewein.
“Who Killed Captain Kirk?” by Paco Madden; a murder mystery set at a Star Trek convention, directed by Immanuel Elliott
A play about a nearly perfectly designed fembot becoming self aware entitled “The Wolves Above” by Alyssa Zaczek, directed by Cassandra Snow.
SET B IS:
A hilarious and spot-on takedown of platonic ideals and various geek mythologies–the show is “Gargle McFury Slays Gender Essentialism” by Alex Reed, directed by Kristin Fox.
“Love Bot” by local playwright Matthew A. Everett, in which a gay and a lesbian astronaut are charged with repopulating the world. Directed by Scott Pakudaitis
“Falling Awake” by Alexis Scheer, where the characters are grappling with grief in a way that transcends space and time. Directed by Mel Day.
SET A performs on June 13th, 15th, 19th, and 21st.
SET B performs on June 14th, 16th, 20th, and 22nd.
All runs are at 7:30 P.M. except for Sundays, which are at 3:00 P.M.
*Sundays and weekdays are Pay What You Can
Tickets are available per show, per night, or (recommended) for the whole festival.
Featuring the work of over 30 queer, feminist, and allied directors, playwrights, actors, and technicians, Gadfly’s dedication to inclusive and relatable–or “uniquely universal” work continues with this festival. While set in other worlds, laced with magic, or taking place far, far in the future, these six shows still contain characters and materials our regular audience will love–namely likeable queer and feminist characters and messaging that is progressive, PLUS a fun exploration of the growing crossover between geek, queer, and feminist cultures.
*This show made possible by the Minnesota Jaycees-Shakopee chapter and audience members and donors like YOU!
