DFL candidates for governor support marriage equality

by Andy Birkey November 5, 2009 blog, politics No Comments

For the first time in the Minnesota history, all the DFL candidates for governor support full marriage right for same-sex couples. As Eric Black at Minnpost notes, no Republican candidates support same-sex marriage. Steve Kelley, who prominently featured support for same-sex marriage when he announced his campaign had this to say:

“I think it’s fair to say that I’ve moved,” Kelley told Black yesterday. “In 2006, I would’ve said civil unions, yes. Marriage, no. But I have become more comfortable saying, ‘Let’s just call it what it is — marriage.’ It will be a responsibility of the governor to have a conversation with Minnesotans and get them comfortable with that.”
