MCed by Sol Raz
Panel discussion on Art, Gender & Resilience moderated by Jason Jackson.

Resilience is a springing back into life. It is renewal, revitalization, regrowth, rebirth. It is flexibility, adaptability, and elastic strength. Resilience is remembering how to stay grounded, and how to come back to our power so that we can take on new challenges. Resilience is what we need so that we can take risks. It is realizing our worthiness so that we can continue to move forward, so we can lean into our lives and our communities. Resilience is a joyful bounce, a lighthearted leap, a face toward the sun.

The University of Minnesota Transgender Commission, a group of volunteers working to make the U of M a better place for people of all genders is proud to announce our 8th annual Transgender Commission Celebration. This year’s event is co-sponsored by KFAI radio!!

Calof and Scrawlex

[sws_yellow_box box_size=”100″] The Calof Series and Scrawlex: Patrick’s Cabaret is pleased to announce that its Calof Series and Scrawlex Open Stage [/sws_yellow_box]

Patrick’s Cabaret is pleased to announce that its Calof Series and Scrawlex Open Stage nights will be double-headers throughout 2014! The Calof Series will start at 7:30pm and be followed at 9pm by Scrawlex. These free events also include free coffee and decadent bakery treats from our wonderful neighborhood sponsors.
Joan Calof performed monologues and plays, and often sang at Red Eye Theatre, Cheap Theatre, The Playwrights’ Center, and Patrick’s Cabaret. She won several awards for her work, including a Loft Creative Nonfiction Award and a Playwrights’ Center Jones Commission. She was adventurous in her performances, her many travels, and in all her intellectual pursuits. When she passed away last winter she left a generous gift to Patrick’s Cabaret with instructions that it support programming and not be spent on a tribute. By naming this new series after her we’re able to do both!
Each evening will feature two spoken word/storytelling artists and two singer/songwriters to present works-in-progress to an audience that will be encouraged to offer feedback via dialogue with the performers. In addition, throughout the evening we’ll be offering free coffee and baked goods from our wonderful neighborhood sponsors: Peace Coffee Shop and Mosaic Cafe
Scrawlex will immediately following The Calof Series. Open wide and wail! Or dance around the concessions counter. Sing your art out! Unveil the unspoken. 10 minute slots; no advance sign-ups. No tech (or low tech) shows on our lobby stage. There will be an intermission so attendees can network about what’s going on with their art, at their venues, and maybe engender some collaborations. *Scrawlex is a bastardization of “grawlix” – the word for scrawled scribbles indicating swearing in a comic character’s word balloon.

[/sws_yellow_box]

With all this cold weather, we need something to heat things up! What’s the best way to do that? Go to a smoking hot drag show!

We can’t guarantee that we’ll melt the snow, but we can guarantee you’ll have a great time watching our performers give you a show you won’t soon forget!

For this show, we’re doing something new. We’re going to do a “bullet” round! If you’ve never seen this before, you need to come and see it happen. The performers are going to get up on the stage, and do a song that someone else picked out for them! With the caliber of performers we’ll be having that night, it’s going to be a night to remember for years to come.

Scheduled to perform:
Alex
Angelo Ricci
Arianna Montrese
Brandy Merlot
Fantina Delux
Nickita Kyle
Perdita Rogers
Portia Bloomwood
Tosha VanScott

Hosted by Ariel!

There may be a surprise performer showing up for this show, so keep checking the event page for updates!
