Where does your meat come from? GlobalPost has a long feature on the booming gay porn industry in Prague and the lives of its predominantly straight models. Since the fall of Communism, the tiny Czech Republic and neighboring Slovakia have become the biggest producers of gay porn outside of America, fueled by low production costs and a bevy of older-than-they-look twinks with relatively few hang-ups about having sex on camera, even barebacking. Czechs are apparently reacting to the tight restrictions on sexuality and pornography in place under the Communist government by being much more accepting of pornography and the porn business in general (or so goes the theory). Sounds all fine and dandy, right? Some, however, are concerned that many of the younger actors will eventually wind up in the escort business:

Some of Capier’s [one of the most prolific gay porn actors in the Czech Republic] fellow models are students, many of whom get used to making a lot of money quickly and then have a hard time quitting. They get used to spending lavishly and buying generous gifts for their girlfriends. Capier says he has seen models quit school because they no longer saw the point.

“Today, they have nothing. They are too old to shoot,” he says. “It’s all gone. The nice hotels, the fans. All gone.”

Most of them end up doing escort work, a polite term for prostitution.
