The National: ACLU To Save Constance McMillen’s Prom!

0

The American Civil Liberties Union is taking up the case of Constance McMillen, the Mississippi high school senior whose courageous attempt to bring her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo to prom caused the school to cancel the whole show. They’re pushing for a quick legal decision, in the hopes of saving prom for McMillen and her classmates. We wish her the best of luck, but all in all, it sounds like the plot of a Disney Channel movie…if the Disney Channel was run by my favorite kind of left-leaning, NPR-listening, veggies-for-dessert-serving mothers. Seriously, McMillen needs a movie deal out of this.

Pennsylvania – The state Senate’s judiciary committee voted down a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-gender marriage in an 8-6 bipartisan vote. (The Advocate)

California – “Not-so-ex-gay” leader closes his ministries, after being exposed for propositioning other men for sex in public parks by Ex-Gay Watch. Bonus: Ranker.com lists the top 10 bigots outed for being gay themselves. (The Box Turtle Bulletin, Ranker.com)

New York – New York City’s favorite girlfriend-beating, gay-marriage flip-flopping douchebag goes down in flames in a special election. (Joe.My.God)

D.C. – Trying to blackmail a gay Iraqi flight attendant into becoming a double agent against al-Qaeda (when he actually had no connection to the group) kept the CIA from sharing crucial info that could have stopped 9/11. (Towleroad)

D.C. – Gen. David Petraeus, head of US forces in the Middle East, comes out in favor of a DADT repeal. It’s unfortunate that the military is still being asked for its policy opinions – the province of Congress – but this does mean that, in internal Army politics, Army Chief of Staff William Casey, who opposes a repeal, is surrounded by more enlightened general officers, presumably influencing the Army’s official position on the issue. (Huffington Post)

Florida – The state’s legislature debates the ban on adoptions by LGB individuals for the first time in 33 years. (Towleroad)

Texas – Jail guard fired for advocating the death penalty for homosexuality and justifying slavery with the Bible. Well this is unprecedented, for a justice system somewhat notorious for routine miscarriages of justice. (The Advocate)

Teh Interwebs – The Advocate thinks Karl Laagereld gives “curious” quotes. “A pompous ass” might be more accurate. (The Advocate)
