In a poll conducted at the Minnesota State Fair by the Minnesota House Public Information Services, 59 percent of State Fair attendees said ‘no’ to the question: “Should schools and businesses be able to require individuals to use restroom and locker room facilities based on biological sex, as defined at birth?”

Thirty-one percent said bathroom should be restricted by based on “biological sex.” Ten percent were undecided or didn’t have an opinion. The question was inspired by a bill offered by anti-LGBTQ Republican Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen.

Here are the vote totals and counts:

Yes 30.6% (1,962)
No 59.2% (3,796)
Undecided/No Opinion 10.2% (655)

The Catholic Church and the Minnesota Family Council, both of which oppose equity for transgender and gender nonconforming Minnesotans, urged their supporters to vote ‘yes’ in the poll.

The poll is a tradition at the fair going back decades and has, in the past, included questions about same-sex marriage. Other questions on the poll included whether to increase taxes for transit, to enact background checks on private gun sales, a question on expanding sick leave, and a question about the right for terminally and chronically ill people to die on their own terms.

  1. On the bathroom question, the response shows that Gandhi was right about Catholics and Christians. His quote:
” I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Mahatma Gandhi.

Words to act on: don’t be Christian, be Christ-like. That’s what Gandhi was witnessing in the 40’s and more so today.
