DFL confronts anti-gay candidate Mike Parry

1

Republican candidate Mike Parry, who is running for Senate District 26 in southern Minnesota to be held on Jan. 26, got an important lesson in how use of social media can come back to bite you. He wrote a series of tweets on his Twitter account which the DFL said last week were racist and homophobic.

His tweet, “what’s with Dems and Pedophiles?” came just days after Congress passed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which the religious right dubbed the “Pedophile Protection Act.”

Another tweet said, “read the exclusive on Mr O in Newsweek. He is a Power Hungry Arrogant Black Man.”

As Eva Young points out, the DFL’s statement was one of the rare times the party has called someone out on its homophobia.
