radicalhousewife

What does a feminist do when she becomes a middle class, stay-at-home mom? Fight even harder for the rights of women!

Through vivid tales of street action, political campaigns (both Michele Bachmann and Al Franken make appearances), school curriculum debates, SWAT officers, flame wars, ultrasounds, white-liberal guilt, feminists with no interest in children, moms with no interest in politics, and gay marriage, The Radical Housewife depicts the struggle of one woman to understand herself and her role as a well-educated woman who chooses—for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the “glass ceiling” that enables her husband to earn a greater salary than she could—to stay home and raise her children.

Ultimately, Shannon Drury asks the question: What does “family values” really mean? After reading The Radical Housewife, the answer may surprise you.

Shannon Drury is a Minneapolis-based writer, parent, and feminist activist. She writes a regular column for the Minnesota Women’s Press and has had essays published in the anthologies The Good Mother Myth and Atheist Voices of Minnesota. Her work has also appeared in Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture, HipMama, and Minnesota Public Radio News.

This event is free and open to the public.

ovation

On Oct. 11th Ovation is putting on a concert with the UUFM choir. The performance will start at seven o clock.

Join OVation for a concert celebrating National Coming Out Day! The concert will feature songs of love, family and frivolity.

Ovation is an Outreach choir located in St. Paul. The choir is made up of LGBTQ and ally singers. Our own Wayne Schneider, our former Rev. Lisa Friedman’s husband, is a part of this wonderful choral ensemble.

Free Will donations will be going to a Homeless Youth Drop-In Center. The center is a place where young homeless people (up to age 21) receive non-judgmental support and assistance. It is a place where young people can look beyond their past and begin to plan for their future!

Come one, come all! Invite your friends and let’s REACH into our hearts and pockets and help out this wonderful cause.
